A few years ago the advent of intravenous iron infusions revolutionised the management of iron deficiency. Now the next generation of iron infusions, a preparation called Ferrinject is a further leap forward. Gone are the days of hospital admissions and significant risk of allergy reactions. Ferrinject is a simple intravenous injection able to be given by your GP in our rooms. Gone are the 4 hours wasted time with the old infusion, this only takes 15 minutes.
Also gone is the risk of severe allergic reactions. Ferrinject is now a government subsidised prescription which costs $32.90 at the pharmacy or $6 for card holders. Your out of pocket costs at our clinic totals from $50 to $100. This compares very favourably with the up to $500 cost through Specialists in Private Hospitals not the mention the simplicity and convenience of having Ferrinject administered here.
We are pleased to have the option of offering shared antenatal care at Sorrento Medical. Dr Peter Meggyesy is accredited for shared antenatal care for women opting for delivery at Frankston hospital.
Through the new shared care arrangements you can have all of your care provided here at the clinic.
This service is available to all pregnant women assessed as being “low risk” cases.
Patients on the blood thinning agent warfarin may now have an easier alternative. In the lead up to the federal election the government suddenly decided to subsidise Pradaxa and Xarelto. Both of these new drugs are as effective as warfarin but without the interaction with foods and drugs that the warfarin has and without the need for blood monitoring and dose adjustment. The listing is restricted to those patients with atrial fibrillation and another risk factor for stroke. It is not listed for valvular heart disease. Please discuss your anticoagulation with your GP at the next visit.
